Hello, First-grade families! We are about to start week four of Semester 2, yay!

Announcements:

Take-Home Folders are coming home today! Be on the watch as school photo payment packets will be inside along with current work. These folders may be a bit full as we cleaned out our math and writing folders.

Valentine’s and Arizona Statehood day is coming up! We will be having an afternoon of fun to celebrate both events through science, art and language centers. These centers will be all three first grade classes combined. If you are interested in helping out please use this sign up. (click on the words sign up to find the page).

A list of student first names (or nicknames) will be sent out through an infinite campus email for valentine cards. If you choose to participate in making cards please do so for the whole class without candy. Thank you!

Please have your student bring a box or bag with their name on it for valentine’s cards the day before or on Valentine’s day. Students are welcome to decorate them at home. 🙂

First grade is going on a field trip! Thank you, everyone, for filling out the new online permission slips, we appreciate it greatly! First grade will be leaving to go see a play at the Mesa Art Center on February 18th in the afternoon. More information to come.

Next week at a glance:

Math: We will be learning about comparing numbers! Over the course of the week, we will go from understanding how to tell and explain if a number is larger and small to being able to use and explain the symbols involved.

Writing: We will be working on our last class information writing project before our final writing prompt. As we have been learning about different kinds of animals we will be completing an animal report!

Reading: We will be working on learning the sounds for ear, ey while we practice sounding using syllables. Our comprehension passages will be focusing on birds.

Our phonics/spelling words for next week: earth, heard, search, learn, money, honey, donkey, valley. Bonus words: unheard, volleyball.

Science: We are going to learn about the animal classification for birds!

Have a great weekend,

Kelsey Donovan
